Holiday Drives and Fundraisers

MHS is involved in, or hosting, quite a few holiday fundraisers in order to help those in need and give back to the community.  In order to help MHS students and staff understand all of these initiatives, the Solon Spectrum has compiled all of them onto one informative page, complete with who to contact for further questions or comments.

Shoebox Drive

What is it?

The Central Vermont Council on Aging (CVCA) partners with local businesses and community volunteers to provide some holiday cheer to elderly residents of Central Vermont.  The council asks volunteers to please join in the effort by participating in a “shoebox” drive. For this drive, they ask that volunteers fill shoeboxes with small gift items such as:

  • Stationery

  • Winter Clothing

  • Gift Cards

  • Kitchen Supplies (pot holders, kitchen towels, mugs)

  • Nonperishable Food Items

  • Soaps, lotions, and grooming items

Club Action and the MHS Interact Club are with the CVCA to organize a shoebox drive at MHS from Wednesday, December 7 to Tuesday, December 20.  They ask that you bring in shoeboxes — marked “male” or “female”  — to your TA, as well as gifts to fill these boxes. The TA which provides the greatest amount of items will win a box of donuts.

Postcard Pick-Me-Up

What is it?

For this drive, started by a nursing professor at UVM, students will make postcards with kind messages for patients that are in the hospital over the holidays. Everyone work on them during TA from the December 12 to 16.  Then, Ms. Monmaney's TA will go around and pick them up this Friday the 16th. They will also have a table set up in the library all week so students can help make postcards at any point during the week when they are free.
