U.N. Climate Goals

The United Nations (U.N) has released its 15th annual climate report, and the results are disheartening but not without hope. Despite goals set during the Paris Agreement to keep global temperatures from rising more than 1.5 degrees Celsius, emissions are on track to more than double that in the coming century. Countries need to act fast and with a resolution to save us from a climate disaster.

Fall Harvest Celebration

The Fall Harvest Celebration is an annual community event held at Montpelier High School (MHS). This year’s celebration, which marked its 15th anniversary, was held on October 24th. It consisted of educational workshops led by community partners and MHS teachers and students, a variety show of student performances and a sustainably sourced lunch shared by the entire school.  

The Clean Plate Club

The Earth Club introduced the Clean Plate Club to an audience of students at the fall celebration in October. In the weeks prior, they hung black and white posters throughout the school with pictures of people holding clean plates in front of their faces and a caption that read “CPC”. At the initial presentation they explained that the club is a way to incentivise a reduction of food waste at school, using a reward system involving raffle tickets and gift certificates.

Latest in Fashion: What Shoe Brands MHS Students Prefer

This week in Latest in Fashion, The Solon Spectrum has asked students to vote on their favorite shoe brand. We presented options that were Nike, Sambas, New Balance, and Converse, with a few write-ins: Doc Martens and Vans. The Solon Spectrum has asked students to choose a favorite and least favorite out of the options .

Sneak Peak at Career Labs

Over the course of a month, there have been multiple opportunities for students at MHS to express themselves and become informed on possible future career paths. This opportunity was given through the Career Lab Series. Professionals across Vermont contributed their time in order to teach and inform students about their careers.
